Novel New Soft Lens Design for Keratoconus

ALDEN, New York, October 13, 2011 – Alden Optical, Inc., manufacturer of custom + specialty soft and GP contact lenses, announced today that it has entered the keratoconic segment of the contact lens market with the launch of NovaKone™ soft contact lens. “NovaKone™ is a novel soft lens design for patients with keratoconus. Many patients are unable to tolerate GP lenses and in clinical trials we confirmed that NovaKone™ is a great option for these patients and may fit an even larger niche in the specialty practice” commented Tom Shone, President, Alden Optical.

At the core of NovaKone™ is a novel lens design that offers the comfort and ease of fit associated with soft lenses. The lens employs a sophisticated posterior design to neutralize irregular astigmatism and optimize physical fit. Front surface toricity is then applied to correct for residual regular astigmatism, while Alden Optical’s proprietary Dual Elliptical Stabilization™ ensures excellent rotational stability. “NovaKone™ has proven to be an important part of my approach to keratoconus. I am pleased with the comfort and vision, and the excellent movement appears to ensure good corneal response” stated. Scott Edmonds, OD of Wills Eye Institute, the lead clinical investigator in the development of NovaKone™. The company offers a comprehensive fitting guide and consultation to aid in first fit selection and refinement. Diagnostic fitting is critical to success and sets are available at a nominal fee.
